Shimura KAZU is a SUMI-E artist. He creates traditional sumi-e works
at his studio in Akasaka (Tokyo) and he also creates digital photo works
by technique that takes pictures of original his sumi-e works in resent
years.

“SUMI-E is the platform for transcodes of your
immanence” His digital photo works are created by this concept. In
sumi-e technique, asymmetry composition and the vacant space provokes
provoke communication.

Sumi-e colors itself by the memory of viewer. For instance a maple
leaf in sumi-e colors either yellow or green depending on what you saw.

“TRANSCODISM” series are created by the action that past memory
transcode to future image in brain of audience. And “TRANSCODISM” is the
key point of this digital era and it changes the way of communication.
“TRANSCODISM” is the art initiative that reflects this social change.

This
SUMI-E photo art that descendant from traditional Asian art field are
attracted by audienceof art fair in Europe since 2009. And Shimura KAZU
pursues his study how does Internet give transformation to media, then 
he has 2 books to his credit.

Sumi-e Basic Course

Sumi-e is the simple minimalism way to depict the nature around.

With the black lines and the gradation of sumi ink on the white paper, you can relax and refresh with the deep breath.   
This three hour basic sumi-e course allows you to achieve the
sumi-e drawing technique and also the way of thinking of Japanese
tradition.   

1. Sumi-e Introduction (30 minuts)
Learn how to load the sumi ink into the brash hair appropriately
① Sumi Tsukuri
② Fude Tsukuri

2. Line Drawing Technique (60 minutes)
Learn the basic three kind of line drawing technique which allows you to depict the bamboo.
① Choku-Hitsu
② Soku-Hitsu 
③ Sen-Byo

3. Draw the bamboo (90 minutes)
Learn the traditional composition of sumi-e art with the bamboo drawing
① Leaves
② Trunk
③ Small Branch

水墨画　年賀状　うさぎの描き方

２０１１年はウサギ（卯）年。年賀状用にうさぎを描いてみました。顔は横長に、耳を長く描くとかわいいです。

■　耳
耳は、片方を大きく。
向こう側の耳は、片側の線は直線で。
２つの耳は１１時５分くらいの角度で。

■　顔の輪郭
向こう側はゆるやかな曲線、こっち側は少し山のある角度で

■　胴体
輪郭の下から、後ろ脚の膨らみも表現します

■　鼻
硬く絞った濃墨で、縦に、筆を紙に斜めに置いて一息。そして払うと、鼻とそこから延びる口が表現できます。右、左にも細い払いを

■　目
薄墨で、横楕円、縦楕円を何回か描きます。

■　ひげ・ほほ
薄墨で２本
あとで、鬚に薄墨をつけた筆を置いて、頬を描きます。

■　しっぽ
薄墨で丸く

■　耳の影
最後に耳の影をつけます。筆先に少し黒い墨をつけると、影がでます。

ハーブ＆ドロシー （ Herb and Drothy ）

先週、ニューヨークに行ってきました。マンハッタン５９番通りをレキシントン・アベニューに向かって歩いていると、Ａｒｇｏｓｙという古本屋さんが。。中をのぞくと、有名人のサインがたくさん売ってました。写真入りサイン、手紙、サイン入り野球カード・・・バート・ランカスターで８０ドルくらい。なんでもコレクション対象になるんですね。時間の積み重ねを味わえるから面白い。

ミニマル・アートやコンセプチュアル・アートの著名なコレクター ハーブ＆ドロシー（ Herb and Drothy ）夫妻の活動を追ったドキュメンタリー映画「ハーブ＆ドロシー　アートの森の小さな巨人」も、夫妻が積み重ねた時間をたくさんのカットで上手く表現している作品です。

ハーブ＆ドロシーは、作品が完成する過程、そのまた過程までが作品一部だと考えています。チャック・クロース（Chuck　Close）は、「こんなものまで持っていくのか」と映画のなかで言っています。

この映画ででてくるコンセプトで一番面白かったのは、ローレンス・ウィナー（Lawrence　Weinner）の「文字は信じてはいけない」というもの。Woodも木も同じ「木」を指しているのに、表現が違います。だから、言語を信じるなというのです。

けれど、僕が思うに、同じものなのに違う表現をしているところに、空間と時間が内包されていて面白いとも思えます。

コンセプチュアル・アートやミニマル・アートは、「裏になにかあるんでは」と、つい引き込まれてしまうのが面白い。

水墨画も同じ。描かない場所にアイデアを込めています。描いた部分だけでなく、空白にも意思があります。ソル・ルウィット（Sol　Lewitt）は、「一見シンプルに見えるものも、複雑性が内在している」と言っています。

シンプルにして、心を惹きつけておいて、作家の思考過程に入りこませる。作家と同じことを体験してもいいし、違うことを体感してもいい。平面な作品を立体的に楽しむのがアートの醍醐味。

ツイッター、フェイスブック、ブログが広まり、コミュニケーションツールが多様化している現在は、ミニマルな表現はとてもニッチな存在でしょう。

ハーブ＆ドロシーが面白がった作家や作品の思索の過程、経過した時間は、全て作家がオープンにしてしまいます。作家どころか、あらゆる人が、全ての時間や思考をネット上に公開しています。

河原温は、絵葉書をハーブ＆ドロシーに毎日送って時間と空間を視覚化しましたが、ソニーがやっているLifeXは、同じことを誰もができ、さらにそれを大勢と共有できます。絵葉書では１対１でした。

ハーブ・ボーガンは、とにかくインデペンデント！そこがいい。「他人がアートを売買するのは、とやかく言わない。ただ、僕はやらない」自分の主義は明確だけど、他人には押し付けないのがとてもいいです。サバサバして好き。

ドロシーが、クリスト＆ジャンヌ＝クロード（Christo　ａｎｄ　Ｊｅａnne－Ｃｌａｕｄｅ）のセントラルパークのオープニングで「誰でも思いつくけど、実際にやるところが凄い」と言っています。人生、実行が全て。

２人の新婚旅行がワシントンのナショナル・ギャラリー、そして絵を寄贈した先もナショナル・ギャラリー。「やっと子供を送り出したという感じね」　映画は、ナショナルギャラリーで始まり、ナショナルギャラリーで終わっています。

１１月２２日には、青山学院大学でこの映画を製作した佐々木芽生監督と鳩山幸さんの対談があります。現在、ハーブ＆ドロシーを見られる映画館は、渋谷のシアター・イメージフォーラムだけですが、１２月からは、沖縄・大阪・名古屋・広島・横浜でも公開されるようです。

ナショナルギャラリーに寄贈されたコレクションは、１０００作品を残し、残りを米国５０州に５０作品ずつ分配されています。佐々木監督は、その動きを追った続編も撮影しているそうです。

We are living in the transcoding era. Contents, information, communication are encoded, transformed then decoded on many devices to reach people. Music, news or movies are enjoyed with cell phones, TV, or computers. The dualism is no longer enough to understand the world.

In this era, it is the platform where contents can be transcoded along
with distribution or devices people use. The world of fragment needs trans-platform to better understand. 

The transcoding culture changes the way of understanding among people. We like on-demand service, two way communication or social media more than one way like broadcasting. Big media pushing messages is dead and Facebook where users can enjoy loose chatting becomes big.

I like pickles turnip, or turnip in miso soup 🙂

Tips

*Body Draw the white part with line. Use light black ink.

Light touch first, small push on the middle of the line. See the photo, the line grows on the middle part. Then, when you finish the line, light touch again.
The white part will be drawn with two strokes

Put ink into the brush

*Stalks are kind of thick.

Strong touch first, and stroke up fast. Draw whole stems with one time make brush.

Put ink into the brush, carefully

*Leaves drawing is the most fun part on the turnip 😀

Set the brush almost horizontal toward a paper and move like a car drifting..

Put ink.

* Veins must be drawn before the ink dries, so that you can get blur effect with veins and leaves.

Put ink, make the brush top sharp, like drawing line.

* Hemming is depicted by the like-car-drifting brush movement with using only the top of the brush hair.

Just light touch and speed move fine circles. No need to draw the line of whole leaves. Only the point of the leaves would be better to have the line hemming.
